Women's Ministry

Here am I. Send me. - Isaiah 6:8

Our Purpose

The purpose of Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry (CPWM) is to accept and share the love and joy of Jesus Christ through the ministry of women in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. We seek to do this as we pray, study God's Word, and reach out to others through mission, service, encouragement, and fellowship opportunities. This goal is accomplished through a diversity of ministries.

Our theme this year is GO: it's a call to ministry beyond the walls of the church; a call to make the most of every opportunity to share God's love and the Good News of salvation in Christ.

Circles

First Cumberland has two women's ministry circles. Both are named in honor of wonderful church women whose service in the church and community inspire us.

Mildred Brown (1911-2005) was active in Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry beginning in her teenage years. Her leadership at the local and regional level was invaluable.
  • The Mildred Brown Circle meets the second Thursday of each month at 11:30 for lunch (bring your own sandwich!), business, and a devotional program.  Most meetings are held in the Fellowship Hall, but we go on a few field trips, too.
Miriam Johns (1911-1990)  was deeply devoted to her church.  In 65 years, she missed Sunday School only two times--and both of those because she was in the hospital! Her record of faithful attendance will likely never be broken.
  • The Miriam Johns Circle doesn't have a set meeting time. They meet in order to work on particular projects...and for a fabulous Christmas party!
