Welcome to the Family!

Study after study has shown that children who feel like a part of the "whole" church are more likely to remain connected to church as adults than children who spend all their time in children-only programs. At First Cumberland, we are very intentional about building intergenerational friendships; including our children in the full life of the church; and nurturing their faith development.

Children in Worship

Because we believe that Christianity is as much "caught" as "taught," we include children in our worship service rather than sending them off to a separate service of their own.

That means that every person in the pew has the opportunity to model Christian worship for our kids, and to help them learn good worship habits.

Children in elementary school and younger are invited to the front of the sanctuary during the service for a special time of learning and blessing. Our children also help as acolytes, ushers, and readers in the service.

Yes: sometimes this means that our services are a little loud when we thought they'd be quiet...or a little wiggly during the sermon. We think it's completely worth it!

This year, we're completing a huge remodeling project, which means our nursery is temporarily closed. Babies and children of all ages are always welcome in worship--and if they are a little wiggly or giggly, that's okay with us!

K-5th grade Children

Our K-5 Children attend Sunday School, LOGOS and participate in service. This church takes all children seriously and values them deeply.

This level of care is shown through curriculum that is thought-provoking and engaging, as well as tackling real-life issues that begin to develop in this age group.

Creative and fun lessons allow for child engagement and processing of materials.

Youth Program

Our middle and high school students meet each Wednesday evening during the school year, and join the rest of us for dinner when LOGOS is in session.

They also participate in service projects, serve as ushers, go on fun day trips, and help lead worship several times each year.

It is the goal of this church and congregation to create a safe place for youth to grow in a more intimate and authentic relationship with God. This is achieved through Bible Study, Small Group Discussion, delightful community, and the processing of emotions.

We Are All Children of God.
