Let the children come

...for the kingdom of heaven
belongs to such as these.
-Matthew 19:14

Welcome to the Family!

Study after study has shown that children who feel like a part of the "whole" church are more likely to remain connected to church as adults than children who spend all their time in children-only programs. At First Cumberland, we are very intentional about building intergenerational friendships; including our children in the full life of the church; and nurturing their faith development.

Children in Worship

Because we believe that Christianity is as much "caught" as "taught," we include children in our worship service rather than sending them off to a separate service of their own.

That means that every person in the pew has the opportunity to model Christian worship for our kids, and to help them learn good worship habits.

Children in elementary school and younger are invited to the front of the sanctuary during the service for a special time of learning and blessing. Our children also help as acolytes, ushers, and readers in the service.

Yes: sometimes this means that our services are a little loud when we thought they'd be quiet...or a little wiggly during the sermon. We think it's completely worth it!

Nursery care is available throughout the service for infants-kindergarteners who need a little more space and wiggle-room!

Sunday School

Preschool through elementary classes utilize Godly Play curriculum: a Montessori-based system that lets us share Bible stories in hands-on, creative, age-appropriate (and wonder-filled) ways. Middle and High school classes are geared toward helping our students integrate their faith into their daily lives.

LOGOS

LOGOS begins September 11, 2019

On
Wednesdays during the school year, our church gathers for LOGOS. Students explore Scripture, sing, create art, and play games. They are assigned to a "table family" for the full LOGOS year: 2 adults and up to 3 other kids who eat together, talk together, and build relationships as they share a family-style meal.

On a LOGOS evening, 40+ volunteers cook, teach, lead, clean, and mentor our students, making it a truly intergenerational time of fellowship.
  • LOGOS 2018-19 began September 19. It's the start of our THIRTIETH YEAR!
  • 4:45-7:00, dinner included
  • Tuition is $45 per child per semester, with discounts for toddlers and multi-child families. Scholarships are available.

Youth Program

During the school year, Middle and High School youth meet on the third Sunday of the month after church for lunch and fun. During the summer, they meet on Wednesday nights at the Lake.

They also participate in service projects, serve as ushers, go on fun day trips, and help lead worship several times each year.

We Are All Children of God.
